I've spent more than three decades working across administration, operations, finance, project support and business improvement.
I've worked with sole operators, growing businesses, leadership teams, and business owners across a range of industries. Which means I've seen plenty of spreadsheets become "the system", processes live entirely in people's heads and workarounds that have become permanent fixtures.
Along the way I've learned that most business frustrations aren't caused by people. They're caused by things that have been left sitting on the to-do list for too long.
You didn't start your business because you were excited about fixing spreadsheets, documenting processes, reviewing software or working out why something takes three times longer than it should.
You started it because you had something valuable to offer.
Over the years, I've noticed most business owners and leaders already know when something isn't working as well as it should.
They know a process feels clunky.
They know they're relying too heavily on one person.
They know they're paying for software they're not fully using.
They know there's probably a better way.
What they don't always have is the time, energy, or headspace to stop and sort it out.
So it stays.
Weeks become months. Months become years. Eventually the workaround becomes "the way we do things around here. That's the stuff I love helping people untangle.
Not because I'm obsessed with systems, processes, or software. Because I'm interested in making work easier. I like finding the thing that's creating frustration, getting in the way or taking longer than it should and sorting it out.
I don't believe every problem needs a complete overhaul.
Sometimes the answer is a better process.
Sometimes it's clearer ownership.
Sometimes it's making better use of the tools you already have.
Sometimes it's simply having someone help you work out where to start.
What matters is finding the right solution for the business you're actually running. Not the one a textbook says you should have.
